USB has been around since the previous century. It was a quantum leap forward from the old serial and parallel ports we pioneers struggled with in the 80’s and 90’s.
USB has evolved in that time. It’s gone from slow but reliable to screaming fast.
So why is it taking an hour to copy this movie to a flash drive?
When you’re shopping for flash drives, make sure you spend a bit more and get USB 3.0 compatibility. The cheapos will be USB 1.0, and transfers will be slow.
Now that you have a nice USB 3.0 flash drive, make sure you plug it into a BLUE USB port. USB 3.0 ports are identified by being blue in color.
The combination of USB 3.0 flash and port means your copying will scream.
And stay tuned. We already have USB 4.0 out in the wild, as well as Thunderbolt. They make USB 3.0 look slow. These will become commonplace over the next few years.
